Draft Community Health Improvement Plan

Daytona Beach, Fla. - After more than a year studying the health of Volusia County and gathering input from its residents, a draft of the Community Health Improvement Plan is available for review and comment.

The draft three-year plan is online at volusiahealth.com. The deadline to provide input is September 14.

"We surveyed our residents, held town hall meetings and collected data countywide," said Department of Health in Volusia County Administrator Patricia Boswell. "Now we're asking the community to weigh in on the plan that has been developed."

Key priorities for Volusia County include adult behavioral health, youth mental health, barriers to health care services, healthy eating and physical activity, and chronic disease – cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Once final comments are collected and reviewed, the plan will be put into action as various agencies champion improvements in the priority areas, Boswell explained.

The plan is a collaboration of Healthy Volusia partners, which engages several organizations outside of DOH-Volusia including Bethune-Cookman University, CareerSource Flagler Volusia, Early Learning Coalition of Flagler & Volusia Counties, Florida Hospital, Halifax Health, Healthy Start Coalition of Flagler & Volusia Counties, Stewart Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare, Volusia County Government, Volusia Flagler Family YMCA, the United Way of Volusia/Flagler Counties, UF/IFAS and One Voice for Volusia and its member organizations.
